Carl Orgren Honorary Student Scholarship Fund

More than 2,230 students have graduated from the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) with their M.A. in LIS since the school’s inception in 1967. Of those students, approximately 1,565 were here while Dr. Carl Orgren was a member of the SLIS faculty. Dr. Orgren was a faculty member during the first ALA accreditation in 1971 and was director in 1980 through spring of 1996, retiring in 1999. During this time he experienced five accreditation reviews. This year, in celebration of our 50th anniversary, we have created a student fund honoring Dr. Orgren.

Your donation to the Orgren Student Fund can make a critical difference in the life of a SLIS student. The Carl Orgren Honorary Student Scholarship Fund provides financial support for students who are pursuing a Master’s Degree through the School of Library and Information Science at the University of Iowa. The award will be distributed annually to one or more students entering or already enrolled in its program. Selection will be made by the Scholarship Committee on the basis of academic excellence and professional commitment.
