Spring 2021 SLIS Courses to be Online

A message from Associate Director of SLIS, Prof. Lindsay K. Mattock:

I would like to thank our faculty, staff, and students for all of your hard work this semester. While circumstances have been far from ideal, I appreciate everyone's dedication to building community through our online platforms. I truly appreciate hearing from everyone and I hope you are all taking care.

The Spring course catalog opened on October 30 in advance of registration for the spring term in late-November. You will notice that all of our courses will continue to be offered in distance mode. Given the space limitations in our classrooms and the rising number of cases and hospitalizations across the state and country, we will be following the University guidance to continue offering our program virtually for the time being. I encourage each of you to reach out to your faculty advisors to discuss your plan of study for the spring. Note that the University has modified the spring semester schedule - courses will open a week later (January 25th) to account for the lack of spring break.

The SLIS Office, Gunther Commons, and the kitchen will also remain closed until further notice. We will continue to assess the guidance from the CDC, the state, and the University as we develop plans for reopening these spaces. We encourage you to keep in touch through the SLIS ICON site or by contacting faculty and staff directly. Faculty office hours and contact information have been posted to the ICON site and the office continues to hold scheduled chat sessions M-Th. In addition, we will schedule a SLIS Town Hall before the start of the spring semester, where you can connect with faculty and students and voice your questions as we reconvene after the New Year.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with your questions and concerns. I am available by phone (319-335-5712), email (lindsay-mattock@uiowa.edu), and zoom (https://calendly.com/lmattock) and I look forward to hearing from each of you.
