LIS Honor Society Welcomes New Members

Five May 2011 SLIS graduates joined Beta Phi Mu, an international honor society for Library and Information Studies. More than 35,000 graduates from accredited programs around the world are members.

The local chapter, Beta Beta Theta, initiated new members Katie DeVries Hassman, Daphne Foreman, Christine Mastalio, Donna K. Salton, and March L. Sutton on Tuesday, May 10.

Current SLIS students Nicole Dudley, Melody Dworak, and Sarah Sellon received scholarships from the chapter.

SLIS professor Joan Bessman Taylor and faculty adviser for Beta Beta Theta presented the awards.

University of Iowa Rare Books Curator, David Schoonover, spoke at the event about highlights of the UI Special Collections.
