SLIS Professor Selected as an Obermann Scholar

SLIS Professor André Brock has been selected as an Obermann Scholar for the Spring 2012 Cmiel Research Semester.

According to its website, “Participants in the Obermann Center enter a community where interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches are valued, a community that appreciates the rigorous thought, long hours and great passion that culminate in successful artistic and scholarly work.” UI Faculty, visiting professors and graduate students are offered a variety of research opportunities through this prestigious center.

Brock will contribute to the discussion on, "The Dis-Integration of Black America? Post-Civil Rights African American Culture.” Participants will pursue individual projects while sharing approaches and findings with each other in an interdisciplinary setting.

The Obermann Center is a well-recognized research community, and applications for the 2012 Cmiel research semester, named in honor of frequent Obermann Scholar and former UI professor Kenneth Cmiel, were especially competitive.
