SLIS Alumna Awarded for Teaching Excellence

SLIS alumna Dr. Michelle Holschuh Simmons and fellow San José State School of Library and Information Science lecturer, Lori Lindberg, were recently honored with the Excellence in Online Teaching Award.

The award is presented by the Web-based Information Science Education (WISE) consortium.

Holschuh Simmons graduated with her MLIS from Iowa in 2000 and went on to get a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy and Culture from the University of Iowa in 2007. She currently lives in Greensboro, North Carolina and is a full-time lecturer for the San José State School of Library and Information Science.

According to a press release, the WISE award recognizes Holschuh Simmons’ and Lindberg’s, “accomplishments as educators in online courses, which are part of the School’s Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program. Student feedback is one of the key award criteria.”

Holschuh Simmons teaches courses on Information Literacy and Information Resources and Services.

The award was presented at the January conference of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) in San Diego.
