New BSides Publications

Check out the two latest publications of the SLIS Journal, BSides:

  • Open Source Software Libraries:
A website created by Sherry Lochhaas and Melissa Moore for Joan Bessman Taylor’s Public Libraries class, this resource “introduces librarians to using open source software and provides tips for implementing and evaluating your transition, ideas for funding, and suggestions for open source software to use in your library.”
    The direct URL is: http://slis.uiowa.edu/~slochhaas/osslibraries/
  • Freedom of Information Act and Libraries:
Written by Katherine A. Bullen for Joan Bessman Taylor’s Cultural Foundations class, this paper explored the development of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and how the PATRIOT Act has “undermined the FOIA and put the freedom to read at risk.”

BSides is a peer-reviewed, open access publication for SLIS students and alumni. Works in progress and works in alternative formats are welcomed. BSides accepts submissions on a rolling basis. Please direct questions to bsides@uiowa.edu
