Second IMLS Teacher Librarian Cohort

Second IMLS Teacher Librarian Cohort

The School of Library and Information Science is pleased to welcome the second cohort of students in the IMLS grant-funded 21st Century Teacher Librarians program this summer. An additional twenty Iowa teachers will begin work on the MA degree and teacher-librarian endorsement. The first cohort began the program last summer. The two groups reflect a broad geographical distribution throughout the State. In addition to their already rigorous teaching schedules, the students in the program take two courses a semester, completing the program in approximately 2.5 years.

"We look forward to the opportunity to work with another group of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers," says the School's director Jim Elmborg. "Our partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services has provided an excellent venue for serving the pressing need for teacher librarians in the State, especially for areas in which access to an ALA-accredited degree would be limited."
