Being a Minority in a ‘Post-racial’ World

"Whatever Affects One Directly Affects All Directly” Presented by Professor André Brock

Wednesday, February 4, 2009
This workshop discussed experiences and expectations of being a minority in a ‘post-racial’ world following the election of President Barack Hussein Obama, the murder of Oscar Grant in Oakland, CA, and the deepening of the global economic crisis and its implication for soon-to-be college graduates.
The workshop combined a short presentation on the experiences of the speaker as a minority attending primarily white collegiate institutions (PWIs) with the workshop structured around the experiences of attendees at the University of Iowa.
