B Sides Has a New Look

As you might recall, the B Sides Journal was created several years ago to be a student-run, peer-reviewed, open access journal that showcases student and alumni academic work from The University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science.

However, due to overall low interest in the journal and the fact that UI SLIS is a Master's program for students who will primarily become practitioners in the field of LIS (as opposed to PhD prospectives), the current B Sides editors have decided to temporarily discontinue the B Sides Journal and instead focus their efforts on the new, more relevant, (and more fun) B Sides Podcast!

The goal of the B Sides Podcast is to provide an interactive and accessible space where LIS students, faculty, alumni, and community professionals to dialog about all aspects of the study, profession, research, and practice of LIS and related fields. Go here for more information about the podcast, and here to listen to the episodes. The first episode has been posted and the second (an interview with Bekah Walker) will be posted this Friday.

B Sides is searching for volunteers from the faculty/community/student body who are interested in co-hosting an episode. For more information on co-hosting and ideas for things you can talk about, go here. The recording schedule has available dates and planned topics that need volunteers.

The B Sides Journal is still accepting any last minute submissions by 11:59pm on December 31, 2016. Items submitted by this date, as well as any submissions currently in the backlog, will be reviewed for publishing during the Winter/Spring semesters.

B Sides can be contacted here, or by emailing either Bethany or Katie. B Sides can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.
