WELCOME TO LISSO: The University of Iowa student chapter of the American Library Association!

You are a LISSO member, dues free, as an accepted student of the School of Library and Information Science, and are invited to attend any meetings and associated functions.

LISSO Meetings

In lieu of regular business meetings in spring 2017, LISSO will be sending out newsletters twice a month to share upcoming dates and important information about LISSO, SLIS, other student groups (B-Sides, Librarians for Social Justice), and area libraries. LISSO will be holding meetings on an individual basis as events arise over the course of the semester. See the full archive of LISSO newsletters lower on this page.

Have information you would like to include in a newsletter? Contact Kery or Bekah!

Social Events and Initiatives

Social events and other LISSO initiatives are announced as they are planned via LISSO email, Twitter, Facebook and at LISSO meetings.

LISSO officers and members have positively impacted SLIS by:

  • Helping to facilitate new student orientations
  • Bringing in guest speakers from many different types of libraries
  • Co-hosting the "Unpacking the Library" conference
  • Hosting a book drive for the Oakdale Correctional Facility
  • Functioning as liaisons between the SLIS student body and the SLIS faculty
  • Representing SLIS interests to University administration and the ALA organization
  • Keeping SLIS students connected - and sane - via informal get-togethers and social media
