Iowa Bibliophiles: The Publication History of The Tale of Peter Rabbit

March 13, 2019 - 6:30 pm

Special Collections, 3rd floor Main Library

Join Iowa Bibliophiles and Lindsay Moen, Public Services Librarian and lifelong Beatrix Potter collector, in a discussion of the unique publication history of Beatrix Potter's beloved children's book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. From unlikely beginnings to becoming one of the best-selling children's books of all time, learn how a simple letter becomes a worldwide merchandising phenomenon. Featured along with numerous editions from Moen's private collection will be Iowa's own treasure, a first printing of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, one of only 250 in existence.

Lindsay Moen is the Public Services Librarian at the University of Iowa Libraries' Special Collections, where she has worked for 9 years in a number of positions as both staff and student. At a young age Lindsay received a Peter Rabbit stuffed animal, leading to a life-long pursuit to collect anything Beatrix Potter. Her extensive collection contains everything from Peter Rabbit-themed glassware to figurines to every edition of The Tale of Peter Rabbit she can get her hands on.

Event is Wednesday, March 13th. Coffee and light refreshments will be available beginning at 6:30 pm, with the evening’s talk starting at 7:00 pm.

All Iowa Bibliophiles meetings are free and open to the public. So hop on by!
