Pop up lecture by Matthew Reinhart

April 16, 2019 - 6:30 pm
Stanley Café, Hancher

Please join us for the annual Friends of the Libraries event to hear acclaimed, award-winning artist Matthew Reinhart as he takes you on the journey of creating his gravity-defying pop-up books. An Iowa native, Reinhart majored in industrial design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where his initial dreams of being a toy designer soon transformed into paper engineer. After working with fellow pop-up book artist Robert Sabuda on books like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, A B C Disney, and Movable Mother Goose, Reinhart made his first big break into the pop-up world with The Pop-Up Book of Phobias. His most recent solo pop-up books include Harry Potter: A Pop-up Guide to Hogwarts, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Pixar: A Pop-up Celebration. See Reinhart’s creations at matthewreinhart.com

The UI Libraries Special Collections is home to a growing and significant collection of artists books. Masterful works such as Reinhart’s highlight our commitment to scholarship and creative work in the book arts.

Program begins at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019, in the Stanley Café, Hancher. A meet and greet will follow.
