Since the 2016 US presidential election, there has been a documented increase in the amount of misinformation on the internet and social media. A major research study published in the journal Science found that so-called “fake news” spreads faster and is read by more people than real news. In the course, "Being Responsible Online," I have been teaching a few simple techniques to undergraduates to help them separate quality information from misinformation. Come to this talk if you would like to learn more about how to combat misinformation. Featured speaker will be Tim Arnold, International Reference and Collections Librarian for the UI Libraries.
