"The Collector's Impulse: The Case of the Little Magazine"

Jim Elmborg presents the next edition in a free series of open and informal lunchtime talks. His talk, “The Collector’s Impulse: The Case of the Little Magazine,” will take place on Thursday, November 29 in the University of Iowa Main Library, Room 3052, and is sponsored by the University’s Digital Studio for Public Humanities (DSPH).
Prof. Elmborg’s presentation is based on his project, the “Little Magazine Database” (LMDB). According to Elmborg, “In the years between 1960 and 1974…local publishing of small, poetry-based magazines flourished across the country. Some were acquired by libraries. Many were not. Even half a decade later, the poets and poetry of this era remain largely unknown, largely because we lack access and intellectual control over this fugitive collection of work.”
