Iowa Humanities Festival

March 9, 2013 - 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Salisbury House & Gardens
4025 Tonawanda Drive
Des Moines, IA 50312

On Saturday, March 9, from 10-6, the first Iowa Humanities Festival will be held in Des Moines at the Salisbury House and Gardens. This theme is "Collectors, Collections, and Collecting." The goal is to connect humanities scholars, humanities institutions, and Iowans interested in arts and culture.

The opening panel will run from 10-11 am and will feature the Salisbury House's own collections. The closing panel on museum collections in Iowa runs from 4-5 with a reception following. In between, presenters will lead simultaneous sessions in three rooms throughout the house.

NEH Chairman Jim Leach will be the lunch speaker and SLIS's own Jim Elmborg will be speaking about his Little Magazine's Database project. For a full list of speakers, visit http://obermann.uiowa.edu/programs/public-programs/2013-iowa-humanities-festival.

The event is open to all. Admission is $10 and includes all activities and a box lunch. Tickets are available at the Salisbury House’s web site http://salisburyhouse.org/event.php?event_id=308_0.

The faculty members are enthusiastically developing ways to present their work to a broad audience. If all goes well, this will be the first of many Iowa Humanities Festivals to come.
