ILA Lobby From Home Days - Give Meaningful Voice to Your Advocacy of Iowa Libraries

February 24, 2015 - 8:00 am to February 25, 2015 - 5:00 pm

Online, Email, Phone or Conversation

Make plans to join ILA for the Lobby from Home Days (February 24th & 25th) and the ILA Legislative Day (March 18).

Duncan Stewart, 2015 ILA President, notes "Our lobbyists Craig Patterson and Amy Campbell do a great job in Des Moines, but they consistently tell us that it is your calls, emails and conversations about Iowa libraries that are the most effective way to inform legislators about the importance of funding for Iowa Library Services, Enrich Iowa, and teacher librarians in Iowa schools. . . Take time Tuesday or Wednesday to contact your legislators and celebrate ILA's 25 years of service to Iowa with your personal advocacy."

Need talking points? Christine Sturgeon, ILA Governmental Affairs Committee Chair, provides these. In an email to ILA members dated February 23, 2015, she writes, “The most important thing is to connect with your legislators - so that whenever a library issue comes up, they will think of YOU, and ask you for your thoughts. Remember, you can go to ILA's CQ Engage site for updates on legislation important to Iowa libraries. Here's the quickest link to find your state senator and representative. I know doing this might be out of your comfort zone. But if we don't advocate for ourselves, who will? (Hopefully, our patrons! Have you asked some to do so?) We can do it, together!”
